One of the biggest names in aviation, Textron, has reached a milestone in a green revolution. In recognition of National Renewable Energy Day on March 21, the company announced that it used 100% renewable wind electricity to power all of its Kansas-based facilities.
The use of clean, renewable wind energy significantly reduces Textron’s carbon footprint and supports the company’s commitment to a 20% reduction in overall company greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
“This is an outstanding accomplishment, and it demonstrates our company’s continued commitment to a more sustainable future for our employees, communities, and customers,” said Brad White, senior vice president of Operations. “The use of wind energy has provided us with an excellent solution to becoming more environmentally friendly by powering our facilities with clean energy.”
In July 2018, the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) established Direct Renewable Participation Service (DRPS) tariff, enabling large commercial and industrial customers to access wind energy at lower rates. Kansas is one of the top wind energy-producing states in the country.
In 2020, Textron Aviation announced a multi-year agreement with Evergy Inc. to provide the company’s Kansas-based facilities with energy from the Soldier Creek Wind Energy Center near Manhattan, Kansas. And in 2022, all of Textron’s operations in Kansas were powered exclusively through this clean energy source.
